What is ESIC ?

ESI stands for Employee State Insurance. ESI handled by the Employee State Insurance Corporation(ESIC). ESIC is an autonomous body produced by the law under the Ministry of Labor and Employment, Government of India.

Basically this plan was begun for Indian Workers. In this plan, the workers are given a different variety of medical and other benefits related to money from the employer. 

Any unseasonal factory or company which has  more than  employees (20 employees in some states) who have a maximum monthly salary of 21,000 has to compulsory register itself with the ESIC. 

According to this plan, the boss of the company needs to contribute an amount of  3.25% of the total monthly salary that is payable to the employee. However the boss of the company needs to contribute only 0.75% of his/her monthly salary. There is only relief in the contribution to those employees whose salary is less than 176 rupees per day.

Registration Process of ESIC :

The ESIC registration process is completely online. You can register through the following the below steps :

    1. Login to ESIC portal : 

 

    2. Confirmation Mail : 

  • After submitting the form, the employer will get a confirmation mail sent to the registered mail id and mobile number.
  • The mail will contain username and password details for registering under the ESIC scheme.

 

    3. Form-1 for employer :

  • After login to ESIC portal using the username and password that was sent to the registered mail id, you will redirect to the page where the option of “New Employer Registration” is showing.
  • After clicking on the “New Employer Registration” option then select “Type of Unit” from the top-down list and then click on the “submit” button. The “Employer Registration – Form 1” will show and the employer needs to fill it and submit it.

 

   4. Payment :

  • After filling the  “Employer Registration – Form 1”, the employer has to pay the advance contribution for 6 months.

 

   5. Registration Letter :

  • After successful payment of the advance contribution for 6 months, the employer will get a Registration Letter(C-11) which will contain a 17 digit registration number by the ESIC department.
  • This letter is a proof for the registration of the employer.

Organizations come under ESIC :

According the government the following organizations come under this scheme :

  1. Restaurants and hotels.
  2. Shops.
  3. Cinemas hall.
  4. Newspaper establishment.
  5. Road motor transport establishment.
  6. Private educational institutions.

Documents required for ESIC Registration :

  1. A registration certificate obtained under the Factory Act or Shops and Establishment Act.
  2. PAN Card of the employers as well as employees.
  3. List of directory of the company.
  4. List of shareholders of the company.
  5. Compensation details of all the employees.
  6. A register containing the address of the employees.
  7. Certificate of Registration in case of Company, and Partnership deed in case of a Partnership
  8. Memorandum of Association and Articles of Association of the Company.

The benefits of ESIC scheme are :

  1. Medical benefits to an employee and also his/her family member.
  2. Funeral expenses.
  3. After the death of an employee, 90% salary will be given to his/her dependents on a monthly basis.
  4. Maternity benefits to a woman who is pregnant. 
  5. If the employee gets a disability, 90% salary will be given to his/her dependents on a monthly basis.
